What inspired you to become an entrepreneur and start your own business?
I dreamt of becoming an architect as far back as I can remember, I have always wanted to create things larger than myself. My love started from LEGO blocks, to watching megastructure documentaries with my dad and finally studying architecture from the best of our country.
Yet, I began to feel a sense of complacency and slowness in the profession that dimmed my excitement. It even made me contemplate dropping out of college.
At 21, after reading Peter Thiel's "Zero to One," I realized that building a business was the key to keeping my dream of making a meaningful impact alive. Motivated, I focused on futuristic ideas during my final year, envisioning a modular and prefabricated future for city housing, much like LEGO blocks.
After Graduation, my startup, Shram, was born with a vision to enhance people's work lives—an essential step towards realizing my dream.
What was your biggest challenge as a startup founder, and how did you overcome it?
The biggest and most important challenge that we or any startup needs to tackle is building the right team. It took us 2 years to reach a stage where we found the exact people we should be working with. They have their own amazing set of skills and energy but more importantly they are truly committed and have high levels of empathy. Not having the right team members was a make or break for us.
I think the only solution to this problem was giving it time, filtering correctly and identifying good teamwork traits early on. Once you stop worrying about retaining your teammates, you know you have found the perfect team fit.
Can you share any exciting news or upcoming projects you are currently working on?
To understand our target audience better, we regularly send out public surveys, revealing a high reliance on communication channels for team management. While this is a common work habit, the lack of clear documentation leads to confusion, time wastage, and resource inefficiency.
Shram aims to seamlessly integrate with communication tools, silently organizing work and teams in the background. We're diligently working on this feature, and it'll soon be available to all our users!
If your startup was a fictional character, what would it be and why?
I would say Forrest Gump, which is a really unconventional choice, but we all love him. His simplicity and pure thoughts won over a lot of hearts. He also survived because of all the love he received and his consistent determination to do the right thing without losing focus. And finally, his endless supply of love for other people.
These 3 things, in my opinion, define what Shram represents according to me. It is built to be simple and transparent. It can only grow consistently with the love its users show. And finally, Shram is built with its end users in focus, we don’t plan on changing that till the very end.
How has Razorpay Rize helped you in your journey of being a founder?
I have been part of too many founder groups/circles to care to count. But Razorpay Rize is an absolute exception. It comes without any agenda with just the clear focus of driving positive conversations and building truly impactful communities.
Being in the community allowed us to engage in countless meaningful conversations with other founders. And, office hours also enabled us to have some brilliant conversations with the industry’s best!
